Extreme Poverty by State
By selecting different years, we observe that by 2022, no state had an extreme poverty rate of 40% or higher. Furthermore, no state moved to a worse bracket; they either improved to a better bracket or remained the same.
We also note that states with higher poverty rates are concentrated in the southern region of the country. Specifically, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas consistently held the highest rates across all years.
In 2020, Mexico experienced an overall increase in extreme poverty. However, once the pandemic's effects subsided, the country reduced extreme poverty to levels lower than those recorded in 2016.
